The Balinese culture is one heavily steeped in the mystical, spiritual, and astrological. They have a calendar which tells them which days of the month are most auspicious from everything to getting haircuts and having sex (not necessarily at the same time) to building houses and having babies. You’ll see these calendars hung everywhere you go in Bali, and you better believe that people use them on a daily basis.
However, what you won’t see are the traditional trappings of western Astrology—aka, the horoscope. Unless, that is, you hang out at Padangbai harbor waiting for your boat to the Gilis or Lombok and you have a snack at the restaurant on site. Here you’ll find colorful boards nailed up all around the restaurant, alerting you to the sad state of your life according to your star sign.
